Editor In Chief
The EIC bears final responsibility for the creation of TLR’s product. The EIC is responsible for communicating with authors regarding unsolicited and solicited articles, making offers to publish articles, committing articles to each issue during their tenure, organizing and assigning the articles to the REs, setting an editorial schedule for the articles, editing the articles, putting the articles into proper publishing format, and giving print orders for each issue. It is the EIC’s job to do, or to delegate, everything necessary for the publication of TLR.
The EIC is also responsible for selecting other editors, assigning responsibilities to all TLR members, making daily policy decisions, considering disciplinary policies and issuing sanctions when necessary, representing TLR at any function involving the law school community or broader legal community, working with the ME to secure a speaker for the TLRBanquet, working with TLR candidates during the Candidacy Program, and other supervisory functions.
The EIC has no legal authority to bind the Tennessee Law Review Association, Inc. The EIC should cooperate fully with the Business Manager in all matters implicating the finances of TLR. Any editorial activity that requires extraordinary expenditures must be pre-approved by the Business Manager, and the EIC is responsible for securing this approval. The EIC is also responsible for consulting the faculty advisors on policy matters.
In the event of the temporary incapacity of the EIC, as determined by the faculty advisors, the ME will oversee offers on articles and carry out the EIC’s administrative, disciplinary, and enforcement duties. In the event of the temporaryincapacity of the EIC, the EEs will oversee all editing functions including but not limited to dealing with authors, giving print orders, and approving final edits.
In the event of the permanent incapacity of the EIC, as determined by the faculty advisors, the ME becomes the new EIC, and the new EIC appoints a new ME.

This file contains reports of current activities, any awards and honors relating to the TLR, and any reports of disciplinary action and sanctions. Any TLR member has the right to make an appointment to meet with the ME to examine, but not alter, their file. This file is reviewed by the TLR faculty advisors and is the basis for the academic credit awarded at the end of each semester.
The ME also performs any necessary editing and proofreading functions as assigned by the EIC and assists the EIC in policy and editorial decisions.
The ME plans and administers the TLR Candidacy Program. The ME is responsible for directly overseeing any special committees or special projects (e.g. the cumulative index, clerkship mentoring project, etc.).

This involves scheduling speakers, planning and approving Westlaw and LEXIS activities, and preparing materials for TLR’s monthly meetings. The ME organizes, schedules, and plans administrative assignments for all 2L members. The ME also schedules and plans any TLR meetings, the annual group picture, and, in cooperation with the Business Manager, the annual TLR banquet and any other TLR functions.

The PE ensures that backup copies are kept of each article and distributes the formatted article to the RE with an adequate number of copies for the RE and the stackcheckers assigned to the article. Additionally, the PE tracks Authorities Not Found (“ANF”) for each article. The PE collects ANF forms from the REs, handles requests for interlibrary loans, and ensures that ANF problems are resolved by the appropriate editor. The PE is responsible for formatting and printing the articles in final form. This responsibility includes ensuring that all pages are present and in proper order and all sheets are photocopy ready, formatting the masthead, and making any final formatting adjustments to the article.

The Copy Editor will also help to support the Executive Editors, who will report to the Copy Editor.

Executive Editors (EE)
The EEs assist the EIC in editing for both technical and substantive errors each article published by TLR. If there are substantial changes made to an article’s style or any changes made to its content, the EEs will consult with the authors to discuss those changes and resolve any conflicts. Once the EE has completed a thorough edit and consulted with the author, the article should be submitted to the EIC, who will also do a close edit.
Research Editors (RE)
The RE assigned to a given article may be required to meet with the EIC and assigned EE to discuss the process, including any special issues to be addressed with edits. Each RE works continuously with their team of Second-Year Editors throughout their stackchecking process to foster excellent work and a cohesive team. The REs make themselves available to the Second-Year Editors during the stackchecking process by answering emails or calls in timely fashion. REs should collaborate with their teams to address any questions that impact the whole article.
